Why are my iPhone photos HEIC?
iPhones use HEIC by default because it stores photos in about half the space of JPEG. You can switch the camera to Most Compatible in Settings.
Do I lose quality?
A high quality JPEG is visually indistinguishable for most photos, but it is a second lossy step. Keep the HEIC originals if you edit heavily.
